A formally trained designer with an extensive background in a number of art-inspired industries, Valerie DeKeyser is the creative force behind DeKeyser Design.
She interprets design, art and luxury in the most surprising ways. Steel enveloping long, flowing horsehair. Iron shavings mixed with powdered sugar to form man-made fur. Wire snares embedded into the wood grain of dining tables. Her obsession with the beauty and rawness of nature and wildlife is an often recurring theme in her work. Through concept, materials and construction, DeKeyser illuminates the brilliance of animals while exposing the perils many face in our changing environment. She aims to spark consideration as to where they and we fit into the health of our ecosystem. And doesn’t stop there — a percentage of all proceeds are donated to organizations protecting the environment and wildlife. Simply put – she wants beautiful design to help save the natural world
DeKeyser received her master’s degree in product design from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her lighting collection, Animal : Mineral, premiered at Salone del Mobile in Milan Italy, garnered international press from New York Magazine, World of Interiors, LUXE, Domus, Home: Hong Kong, and retailed at Twentieth Art and Design and Pavilion Gallery in Chicago. She received a master’s degree in product design from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011.
An prior to graduate school, DeKeyser independently conceived of and developed a proprietary manufacturing process to create a high-end vase product line, CREAM by DeKeyser. The line sold internationally in, fine-furniture showrooms and boutiques, hotels and spas.
